Solid Waste Disposal Capacity
Solid waste officials, researchers, advocates, industry members, and consultants in the Northeast U.S. have raised concerns about available solid waste disposal capacity. In 2021, NEWMOA published a first-of-its-kind report to inform these conversations and provide an overview of the solid waste disposal capacity in the region.
An update was published in April of 2026 based on 2024 data. This version also includes a high-level analysis of solid waste being exported out of the region for disposal.
