About the Solid Waste Program

NEWMOA’s Solid Waste and Sustainable Materials Management Program focuses on various solid (non-hazardous) waste issues that fall under Subtitle D of RCRA. These include municipal solid waste (MSW), construction and demolition waste, food waste, household hazardous waste, waste tires, medical waste, disaster debris, commercial waste, industrial non-hazardous waste, and others. NEWMOA also supports work groups focused on extended producer responsibility, landfills, solid waste metrics, increasing recycled content in packaging and products, climate, and materials.

NEWMOA coordinates a Solid Waste & SMM Steering Committee consisting of one or more solid waste program managers from each of the Northeast states. The Committee helps to prioritize NEWMOA’s solid waste and SMM activities and coordinates virtual meetings and webinars.
