What is the Environmental Results Program (ERP)?ERP is an environmental performance enhancement and measurement initiative that seeks to cost-effectively and continuously improve the environmental performance of business sectors or groups. ERP was developed by the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection in 1997. Now, over 18 states have either adopted or are actively learning about the ERP model to address challenging environmental issues. ERP consists of a series of key tools that include a multi-media/pollution prevention compliance assistance workbook that is linked to a compliance certification statement by facilities. The third tool uses a statistical performance measurement system to track environmental performance changes overtime and to evaluate overall program effectiveness. ERP is cost-effective and flexible, improves environmental performance across entire business sectors and groups of many small pollution sources, and uses existing government resources efficiently and strategically.
