We will discuss the environmental benefits of anaerobic digestion such as its potential to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and ways it can promote social and environmental equity in communities disproportionately impacted by pollution and waste. Speakers

Sharon Lewis, Executive Director of the Connecticut Coalition for Economic and Environmental Justice

Sharon Lewis, as the Executive Director of the Connecticut Coalition for Economic and Environmental Justice, has dedicated over thirty years to raising awareness about the disproportionate impact the placement of regional waste facilities such as landfills and incinerators have in low wealth and communities of color which are already burdened with high levels of pollution and other environmental hazards. She strongly believes that by implementing anaerobic digestion processes in waste facilities, environmental justice communities can see a reduction in the reliance of fossil fuels which impact environmental and public health outcomes.
