EPA’s Waste Reduction Model (WARM)

July 21, 2016 @ 10:00 am - 11:30 am

Presenters from EPA Headquarters and ICF International provided an overview of the most recent revisions to EPA’s WARM. EPA created the Waste Reduction Model (WARM) to help solid waste planners and organizations track and voluntarily report greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reductions from different waste management practices. WARM calculates and totals GHG emissions for baseline and alternative waste management practices—source reduction, recycling, combustion, composting, anaerobic digestion, and landfilling. The Model estimates emissions across a wide range of material types commonly found in municipal solid waste. The latest version of WARM was released in March 2016. The majority of updates concern the addition of the anaerobic digestion materials management pathway.
