PFAS Air Emissions: Impacts to Groundwater & Stack Testing

June 22, 2021 @ 1:30 pm - 3:00 pm

The webinar was presented for informational purposes. The views expressed do not necessarily reflect those of each of the NEWMOA-member states, and the strategies and technologies discussed should not be considered an endorsement by NEWMOA or its members.

The webinar included the following presentations:

Catherine Beahm, New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services (DES) [PDF] presented a case study where air emissions from a coating facility effected a large area, including impacts to groundwater. The presentation also outlined New Hampshire’s regulatory authority to protect groundwater from the effects of air emissions and how DES is implementing it.

Wesley Fritz, Weston Solutions [PDF] presented Innovative Sampling & Analysis Techniques for Stack Sampling of PFAS Air Emissions from Stationary Sources. He covered practical experiences with stack sampling for PFAS at chemical manufacturing, coating operations, sewage sludge incineration, and carbon regeneration facilities using sampling methods developed in collaboration with a partnering laboratory. These methods formed the basis for EPA’s Draft PFAS stack sampling method OTM-45. Sources tested include the inlets and outlets of air pollution devices, including carbon beds, wet scrubbers, and thermal oxidizers.
