SUMMARY:Environmental Justice in Anaerobic Digestion: Green Solutions\, Just Outcomes
DESCRIPTION:NERC/NEWMOA Four Part Webinar Series\n\nWebinar 4: Environmental Justice in Anaerobic Digestion: Green Solutions\, Just Outcomes\nJoin us for a webinar on the intersection of anaerobic digestion and environmental justice. We will explore how anaerobic digestion can address environmental inequities and contribute to a more sustainable future. We will discuss the environmental benefits of anaerobic digestion such as its potential to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and ways it can promote social and environmental equity in communities disproportionately impacted by pollution and waste. Don’t miss this opportunity to learn how anaerobic digestion can be a powerful tool for advancing environmental justice. \nView the presentation slides [PDF] \n \nSponsor\n \nSpeakers\nSharon Lewis\, Executive Director of the Connecticut Coalition for Economic and Environmental Justice\nSharon Lewis\, as the Executive Director of the Connecticut Coalition for Economic and Environmental Justice\, has dedicated over thirty years to raising awareness about the disproportionate impact the placement of regional waste facilities such as landfills and incinerators have in low wealth and communities of color which are already burdened with high levels of pollution and other environmental hazards. She strongly believes that by implementing anaerobic digestion processes in waste facilities\, environmental justice communities can see a reduction in the reliance of fossil fuels which impact environmental and public health outcomes. \nBobbi Wilding\, Executive Director of Clean+Healthy  \nBobbi Wilding\, MS\, Executive Director\, has an unquenchable drive to end human reliance on toxic chemicals and to pursue environmental justice. She brings her quarter century of experience in environmental health and justice advocacy to lead Clean+Healthy’s strategic direction\, lobbying activities\, and collaboration in the City of Albany. Her deep commitment to equitable collaboration is manifested through co-leadership of the JustGreen Partnership\, Lead Free Kids New York coalition\, and past leadership roles in the national Getting Ready for Baby campaign and Coming Clean workgroups. She brings thought leadership to Safer States\, the NYS Pollution Prevention Institute\, Childhood Cancer Prevention Initiative\, NYS Children’s Environmental Health Centers as an advisory/steering committee member. \nOver her time at Clean+Healthy she has helped coordinate product testing and biomonitoring for toxic chemicals\, organized events including the 2022 national Building Healthy Futures virtual summit\, and writing and co-writing numerous reports. Her background in Environmental Science (BS) and Ecological Economics\, Values\, and Policy (MS) from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute underpins her expertise in toxics\, policy advancement\, and organizing. Prior to co-founding Clean+Healthy\, she advanced from canvasser to Associate Director at Citizens’ Environmental Coalition. Wilding is the recipient of a 2019 Children’s Environmental Health Champion award from the NYS Children’s Environmental Health Centers.
