SUMMARY:PFAS: Advancing the Understanding of Fate & Transport
DESCRIPTION:The webinar included the following presentations: \nFate & Transport and Recycling of PFAS in the Environment [PDF]\nSteve LaRosa\, Emerging Contaminant Technical Leader\, Weston & Sampson presented an overview of PFAS Fate & Transport including sources of PFAS in the environment and how it cycles through the different media. \nUnderstanding PFAS Fate & Transport: Review of Models for Evaluating PFAS in Land Applied Residuals & Biosolids [PDF]\nDerek Sain\, Research Scientist\, NCASI\, Dr. Erika Houtz\, Senior Environmental Engineer\, Arcadis\, and Chris Shepherd\, Principal Hydrogeologist\, Arcadis presented the findings from a March 2020 study that evaluated the capabilities of existing models to assess PFAS transport from land applied residuals. The study focused on three primary pathways: leaching to groundwater\, surface water runoff\, and plant uptake models.

SUMMARY:EPA's Pharmaceutical Waste Rule’s Sections on Reverse Logistics
DESCRIPTION:Webinar Slides \nThe purpose of this presentation was to provide a review of the sections of EPA’s Pharmaceutical Waste Rule on reverse logistics to help state programs understand how they can adopt and enforce those requirements. The presenters Kristin Fitzgerald and Brian Knieser\, EPA HQs discussed the implications of the Rule’s reverse logistics policies for health care providers\, retailers\, and various products.

SUMMARY:PFAS at Landfills: Investigations in New York & Vermont
DESCRIPTION:The webinar included the following presentations: \nNew York State Inactive Landfill Initiative – Comprehensive Program to Identify\, Prioritize and Address Priority Solid Waste Sites For Potential Impacts on Drinking Water Quality in New York State [PDF] \n\nVincent Fay\, Bureau of Solid Waste Management\, New York Department of Environmental Conservation  presented data from the comprehensive effort to evaluate and prioritize over 1\,950 inactive solid waste sites statewide to determine any potential impacts from PFAS and/or 1\,4-dioxane\, including groundwater sampling and analysis at over 165 inactive landfills.\n\nPFAS Into & Out From Landfills [PDF] \n\nKaesey Kathan\, Solid Waste Management Program\, Vermont Department of Environmental Conservation   presented the results of two recent efforts: a study on landfill leachate management and treatment options; and the analysis of over 100 samples taken from the various incoming wastes at the state’s largest landfill\, including WWTF and industrial sludges\, contaminated soils\, bulky waste\, textiles\, carpeting and commercial customer wastes.

SUMMARY:PFAS: Field Sampling & Cross-Contamination Issues
DESCRIPTION:The webinar included the following presentations:\n \nAnthony Drouin\, Residuals Management Section\, New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services (NH DES) [PDF] \n\nThe NH DES Residuals Management Section (RMS) has been investigating PFAS in sludge/biosolids since 2016. Through these investigations\, RMS has implemented annual PFAS screening into their Sludge Quality Certificate program. The presentation focused on sludge/biosolids PFAS sampling SOPs\, issues faced when sampling sludge/biosolids for PFAS\, and the lessons learned from the sludge/biosolids PFAS investigations\n\nJames Occhialini\, Alpha Analytical [PDF] \n\nPresented an overview of analytical methods for PFAS; the current recommendations for PFAS sampling of environmental media which contain stringent provisions for products and materials to avoid potential cross-contamination. Is there a potential for PFAS to be transferred from common products used during sampling? The remainder of the presentation reviewed the results of a recently published study that investigated this potential
