SUMMARY:Measuring & Reporting P2 Successes: Updates to the National P2 Results Data System & Highlights from the 2007-2009 Pollution Prevention Progress Report
DESCRIPTION:This webinar focused on two aspects of how the P2 community captures activity\, behavioral\, and environmental outcomes from its activities and communicates these benefits to others. The first portion of the webinar featured a web-based tool\, the National P2 Results Data System\, which is used by programs to capture the environmental results from pollution prevention activities. NEWMOA staff provided an overview of recent updates to the System\, highlighting recent changes to the administrative and report-generating features to orient users of the System to these changes. NPPR staff reviewed highlights from the draft 2007 – 2009 Pollution Prevention Progress Report. \nAGENDA \nIntroduction – 10 minutes \nUpdate on the National P2 Results Data System – 45 minutes\nSpeaker: Andy Bray\, NEWMOA \nStatus of P2 Results National Report – 10 minutes\nSpeaker: Jeff Burke\, NPPR \nP2 Results Task Force Report-out – 15 minutes\nSpeakers: Andy Bray\, NEWMOA and Ken Grimm\, PPRC \nGeneral Q&A / Wrap-up – 10 minutes

SUMMARY:Recovering Food Waste Through Donation & Recycling: Ideas for the Hospitality Sector
DESCRIPTION:The amount of food wasted in the United States is staggering. In the U.S. more food ends up in landfills and incinerators than any other material – even more than paper and plastic. This is especially true for the hospitality sector\, where a considerable portion of the budget goes towards buying food – and then disposing of the unused food as waste. In this webinar\, participants will learn how food waste has significant economic\, as well as environmental consequences\, and ways that it can be diverted from the traditional disposal methods and recovered for donation\, recycling\, and composting. See the webinar agenda and links to presentations below. \nIntroduction – 10 min \nFood Waste 101 & the EPA Food Recovery Challenge – 25 min\nSpeaker: Jean Schwab\, EPA National Food Recovery Initiative\nJean Schwab is leading the EPA’s new National Food Recovery Initiative as well as the EPA’s GreenScapes Program for sustainable landscapes in the Office of Resource Conservation and Recovery at EPA Headquarters. She has worked in the resource conservation and recycling field for 21 years – including over 18 years at EPA. Jean is the EPA lead and subject matter expert for organic materials management issues and serves on a number of national initiatives as a technical expert on materials and environmental management. She has a Bachelor’s degree in Business and a Master’s degree in Urban & Environmental Planning. \nPrepared Food Donation: A Socially Responsible & Simple Alternative to Throwing Away Surplus Food – 20 min\nSpeaker: Jim Larson\, Food Donation Connection\nJim Larson directs program development for Food Donation Connection (FDC)\, LLC. Since joining FDC in 1998\, Jim has been instrumental in the growth of FDC’s Harvest Program\, which coordinates donations of prepared perishable food to local non-profit organizations nationwide. He implemented Harvest programs for YUM! Brands\, Darden Restaurants\, Cheesecake Factory\, and Chipotle Mexican Grill\, and is working with donors to establish programs in Australia and the United Kingdom. Jim works with Feeding America and advocates in the US Congress to encourage the donation of surplus prepared food by improving current food donation tax laws\, explaining the issues involved and providing statements for House and Senate committees. \nViva Recycling! – Food Scrap Recycling in Las Vegas – 20 min\nSpeaker: Brad Tomm\, MGM Resorts International\nBrad Tomm is the Director of Sustainability for MGM Resorts International’s Energy and Environmental Services Division. In this capacity\, Brad is responsible for the implementation of the company’s strategic environmental projects and initiatives in the areas of energy management\, green building\, sustainable supply chain\, and outreach and education. Brad also specializes in statistical and financial modeling of the company’s energy\, water\, and waste footprint. Brad is a member of the US Green Building Council and is a LEED AP. He holds a MBA from Thunderbird Global Business School and Bachelor degrees in Economics and Geology from Vanderbilt University. \nQuestions & Discussion – 15 min

SUMMARY:Documenting P2 Program Activities & Getting Outcomes: Updates to the P2 & Compliance Assistance Metrics Database Software
DESCRIPTION:Andy Bray provided an overview of recent upgrades to the “Pollution Prevention and Compliance Assistance Metrics Database Software.” \nThis Microsoft Access-based database software application contains features for tracking program activities including: \n\nWorking one-on-one with clients (such as on-site visits and research)\nProducing educational and outreach materials\nSponsoring workshops and training events\nResponding to information requests\n\nThe database application also tracks the outcomes associated with many of these program activities\, including environmental\, behavioral\, and economic outcomes. Because each state’s pollution prevention and compliance assistance program is somewhat different in the scope of its activities and its structure\, the software can be customized so that programs can use only those components and the level of detail that suit their needs. \nFor more information\, visit: Pollution Prevention & Assistance Tracker (P2@) Software

SUMMARY:Sustainability in Refrigeration: High Impact Practices that Lower Costs for Grocers
DESCRIPTION:The focus of this webinar was on two key sustainability opportunities within grocery stores: refrigerant leak reduction\, specifically identifying high-impact practices that reduce risk; and energy efficiency through opportunities for retrofits\, re-commissioning\, retro-commissioning\, and installing new technologies. Grocery stores benefited from this session with specific actions they can take to reduce their operating costs. \nSpeaker Bios:\nScott Moore has over forty years of engineering\, maintenance and energy efficiency experience in grocery sector including the supermarkets\, pharmacies\, and convenience stores.
