Assistance & Pollution Prevention Results

NEWMOA has been facilitating regional projects to develop and implement a set of metrics for states to use in tracking their pollution prevention (P2) and compliance assistance (CA) activities for over 15 years. The participating state programs believe that it is particularly important to work together to develop a consistent way to measure the impacts of P2 and CA efforts to:

• effectively communicate the activities and accomplishments of the state and local agencies to policy makers
• improve program management
• measure progress toward goals
• provide program funders with relevant activity and outcome information
• influence policy development

To effectively share data, NEWMOA believes that programs need to use a common set of measures and compatible software tools. To support this goal, NEWMOA has been involved with several initiatives:

• developing and helping the state agencies to implement a desktop metrics software tool for tracking activities and their outcomes of their pollution prevention programs
• overseeing ongoing development of the National Pollution Prevention Results System as well as managing the northeast regional module of that system
• developing and implementing a P2 data collection tool to provide a way for programs to share their tools and learn from each other
