Assistance & Pollution Prevention Results

NEWMOA has been facilitating a regional project to develop and implement a set of metrics for states to use in tracking their pollution prevention (P2) and compliance assistance (CA) activities for over ten years. The participating state programs believe that it is particularly important to work together to develop a consistent way to measure the impacts of P2 and CA efforts to:

• effectively communicate the activities and accomplishments of the state and local agencies to policy makers
  


• improve program management
  


• measure progress toward goals
  


• provide program funders with relevant activity and outcome information
  


• influence policy development
  

The participating state agencies believed that to effectively share data, they need to use a common set of measures and common software tools. To support this goal, NEWMOA has been involved with two key assistance and pollution prevention measurement initiatives:

• developing and helping the state agencies to implement a desktop metrics software for tracking activities and their outcomes of their pollution prevention programs
  


• developing and implementing a regional module for the National Pollution Prevention Results System
