Pollution Prevention & Sustainability Projects NE Marinas

The state environmental agencies in the Northeast are working with EPA and each other on the development and implementation of compliance and pollution prevention assistance strategies and tools for marinas in the region. Marinas can have a large number of environmental impacts, including point source and non-point source waste water discharges, storm water runoff, hazardous and solid waste generation, air emissions, fuel spills, spills of other hazardous materials, discharges from boat washing and maintenance operations, and other impacts on the marine environment.

NEWMOA's Marina Workgroup is designed to enhance the ability of the state agencies to implement effective environmental assistance and regulatory programs for marinas and boat yards in the region. The group focuses on sharing information on plans underway and how these can be coordinated. NEWMOA also sponsors a listserv to facilitate electronic information sharing of the Workgroup members.

Since 2002 NEWMOA has been assisting the member states' and EPA's marina and clean marine engine outreach and assistance efforts by organizing and facilitating a regional Marina Workgroup. The conference calls and meetings of the Group focus on sharing information on plans underway in each state and how these can be coordinated with EPA's marina strategy and each other. NEWMOA also sponsors a listserv to facilitate electronic information sharing of the Workgroup members.

This project is funded by EPA Region 1-New England.
