Getting Mercury Out of Schools and Communities

| Program Description |
The schools project educates Massachusetts school staff, students, and administrators about sources of mercury and its impacts on the environment and public health. In addition, mercury materials are collected from schools and non-mercury replacements provided. The communities project included outreach and education about mercury and the organization of three community mercury fever thermometer exchanges. |

For the thermometer exchange, NEWMOA worked with 3 communities and recycled 12 pounds of elemental mercury (including 910 fever thermometers). |
