Environmental Excellence Awards 2008

Project Description The 5th Annual 2008 NYS Environmental Excellence Awards (EEA) program is underway. Under the EEA program, awards are given for excellence in innovation, sustainability, and creative partnerships in business, non-profits, government, academia, and individuals. This year's application deadline was in June 2008, and 42 applications were received for consideration. The awards ceremony is expected was held in December 2008.

The 2008 award winners were:

-Union College in Schenectady for a campus wide program to reduce the school's ecological footprint

-New York State Soil and Water Conservation Committee, based in Albany County, for their program to promote greener and cleaner farming

-Golden Arrow Lakeside Resort in Lake Placid for becoming the first resort in the area to become more sustainable, educate guests about environmental issues, and inspire other resorts to follow their model of excellence in order to reduce the carbon footprint of the hospitality industry

-Brewster School District for implementing a multi-faceted environmental education project, demonstrating exemplary public leadership in protecting the environment, and promoting environmental education

-Chemung County Soil and Water Conservation District and Southern Tier Regional Planning and Development Board for developing an innovative guide for improving stream management

-Aslan Environmental and City of Kingston Wastewater Treatment Plant for implementing an innovative method for managing biosolids in an economical and environmentally sound manner
