| Project Description |
EPA Region 2 is sponsoring a workshop entitled "Seize the Moment: Opportunities for Green Chemistry and Green Engineering in the Pharmaceutical Industry" to take place on September 27, 2007 at the New York City EPA Region 2 Office (290 Broadway). The one-day workshop will both educate and offer a dialogue on how to promote green chemistry and green engineering practices to achieve more sustainable outcomes in the pharmaceutical industry. Participants from EPA, FDA, industry, and universities will:
examine the nature and magnitude of the pharmaceutical manufacturing industry’s environmental footprint and discuss opportunities and barriers to improvement throughout the manufacturing process;
explore ideas on how to better promote green chemistry and green engineering in manufacturing processes within the pharmaceutical industry;
present the values embodied in green chemistry and green engineering principles and overall thinking and how these values can be integrated into the pharmaceutical industry; demonstrate some exemplary industry-based practices of green chemistry and green engineering;
and showcase exemplary technical approaches, options, tools to improve chemical design, and process efficiency. |
