Environmental Protection Agency - Region 1

| Project Description |
The Hospitals for a Healthy Environment (H2E) Awards Review Committee selected EPA Region 1-NE in 2003 to receive one of seven H2E Champion Awards. It appears that the Region is the only one that has been recognized.
Hospitals for a Healthy Environment (H2E), an EPA-supported program, aims to improve environmental performance in the healthcare sector by encouraging healthcare facilities to eliminate the use of mercury by 2005; cut healthcare waste in half by 2010; and identify and eliminate persistent, bio-accumulative and toxic chemicals. As of April 2006, there are 1,163 H2E partners nationally (including 149 in New England), representing 6,381 healthcare facilities. A recent collaboration with the Healthcare Environmental Resource Center (HERC) has augmented the H2E website, www.h2e-online.org, with environmental compliance information in addition to quality P2 information. |
