| Project Description |
In the summer of 2000, Vermont businesses, government institutions, and communities witnessed the evolution of a major shift in business practices. Applications of "sustainability" principles to organizational decision-making have provided Vermont with exciting examples of how to advance economically while protecting critical environmental resources and community assets. To continue this progress, the State of Vermont, in collaboration with others, offered a day-long conference to promote and advance purchasing practices toward greater environmental, economic, and community benefit. The conference capitalized on and highlighted the significant public and private efforts underway to shift toward a more ecological and sustainable economy. Drawing from a host of Vermont examples, this conference highlighted best practices in both the private and public sectors. Presenters from Vermont businesses, government agencies, and organizations shared stories of how they adapted their policies and practices to improve their economic and environmental performance. Building an Ecological Economy demonstrated the immense market potential available to those who apply sustainable business practices. |
