Governor Lincoln Almond joined Department of Environmental Management (DEM) Director Jan Reitsma in announcing the winners of 2001's Governor's Awards for Pollution Prevention and Environmental Leadership at a breakfast ceremony at the Providence Marriott during P2 week.
"By joining forces with the Narragansett Bay Commission, the University of Rhode Island, the Environmental Protection Agency and a host of organizations, our Department of Environmental Management has come a long way in addressing pollution prevention," said Almond. "I applaud all the companies we honor today for their commitment to sound environmental management practices that are designed to curb pollution before it begins."
The awards recipients were:
-S&A/ Paramount Printing (Lincoln) for Press WashUp, Solvent & Volatile Organic Compound (VOC) Reduction
-General Dynamics/Electric Boat (North Kingstown) for a New Powder Coating Facility for Large Submarine Parts
-Naval Undersea Warfare Center (Newport) for their Pollution Prevention Program
-Mr. Harold Gadon (Cranston) for his participation in the Metal Finishing Strategic Goals Programs
-Tytex, Inc. (Woonsocket) for their pollution prevention efforts
-Community College of Rhode Island (Lincoln, Warwick, Providence) |
