IMERC

The first function of IMERC has been to provide a central repository of the Mercury-Added Product Notification Forms that manufacturers and distributors have been submitting for approval under recently-enacted state laws in Connecticut, Maine, New Hampshire, and Rhode Island. The Forms require the mercury-added product manufacturers and distributors to provide information on the mercury content of their products or the components in their products and the total amount of mercury used in all of the product sold in the US in 2001. IMERC has used this information to create the "Mercury-Added Products Database," which can be found at http://www.newmoa.org/prevention/mercury/imerc/notification/.

The database is not yet fully populated because the IMERC state members are trying to ensure that the information provided by the manufacturers is accurate and consistent. In many cases this is requiring extensive communications with the manufacturers, distributors, and their representatives. Eventually the database will contain extensive data on the mercury content of hundreds of mercury-added products, including measuring devices, thermostats, and electronic products, and numerous products that contain mercury switches, relays, lamps, and button cell batteries.
