| Project Description |
EPA Region 2, NYS DEC, and the Hospital Association of New York State held an Environmental Compliance and Pollution Prevention Workshop for Hospitals in Albany in May 2003. Staff from the Pollution Prevention Unit, the Division of Solid and Hazardous Materials, the Division of Water, the Division of Air Resources, and the Division of Environmental Remediation gave presentations on compliance assistance, medical waste, and P2 alternatives that hospitals can implement to reduce their environmental impact. There were approximately 40 healthcare professionals from facilities across the state in attendance.
NYS DEC and EPA Region 2 planned an Environmental Compliance/Pollution Prevention/Voluntary Audit-EMS Conference for Hospitals that was held in Albany on May 6 and 7, 2003. A future workshop may also be held in Rochester later this year.
The "Environmental Compliance and Pollution Prevention Guide for Healthcare Facilities" has been finalized and is posted on the NYS DEC website under the healthcare industry sector. Staff continues to work on a healthcare compliance checklist to complement the Guide. The checklist will include references to federal and New York state regulations that apply to the healthcare industry. |
