Project Description NYS DEC staff met to review and update the latest draft of the Mercury Executive Order. The purposes of this Executive Order are to reduce or eliminate the use of mercury and mercury-containing products by State agencies, appropriately manage existing mercury or mercury-containing products presently owned by State agencies, and encourage others to do the same. The draft Executive Order was reviewed, updated, and resubmitted to the executive for consideration. Mercury elimination and the recognition of the need to reduce the impact of mercury on the environment continues to be major issue in New York. This draft Executive Order is an important step in the establishment of a comprehensive program to effectively manage mercury and mercury wastes from state agencies.
