| Project Description |
In August and September 2002, OTA presented a Certificate of Partnership to three Massachusetts companies for their leadership in toxics use reduction and their willingness to publicly set an example for other companies in the state. The companies are:
-Cranston Print Works (Webster, MA) for the elimination of 2.66 million pounds of sulfuric acid.
-Crest Foam (Newburyport, MA) for the elimination of 190,000 pounds of methylene chloride.
-V.H. Blackinton (Attleborough Falls, MA) for the elimination of freon, trichloroethylene, and ammonia; the reduction of between 54-95 percent of other toxic chemicals used on site; and the implementation of a closed-loop system that eliminated their sewer discharge and use of 25,000 gallons of water per day.
OTA also uses the information from their case studies to illustrate the environmental and economic benefits of toxics use reduction to local community leaders. In addition to receiving the Certificate of Partnership, all of the companies received citations from their local state legislators. |
