|
| Project Description |
As part of a 2000 PPIS Grant to the NYS Department of Health (DOH), NYS DEC, and the Healthcare Association of NYS held six regional technical seminars and accompanying hospital tours in April through June 2001. The morning program at each seminar focused on the values of P2, including economic value, environmental value, risk reduction, community service, compliance value, and the role of leadership. In the afternoon, the host facility presented a two hour tour designed to demonstrate P2 activities that have been implemented. This was followed by a question and answer session, an opportunity to hand out resources and references, and closing remarks.
The last and best attended seminar was at Beth Israel Medical Center in NYC on June 25, 2001. Over 75 people toured the facility. Speakers included the waste manager for Beth Israel, who spoke about developing and implementing a P2 strategy at a large urban hospital, as well as representatives from the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations, Healthcare without Harm, and EPA compliance assistance staff. |
