| Project Description |
In 2001, the P2 team awarded a $19,800 grant to a non-profit organization, Inform, Inc., for a project to develop a low cost outreach program effective at reducing the purchase and use of lindane. Lindane is a pesticide related to DDT, which is classified by EPA as a PBT chemical; it is readily absorbed through the skin and affects the nervous system. Lindane is used primarily in medicine to treat head lice and scabies; lindane shampoos are rinsed off after use and it has acute toxicity to fish. Less toxic alternatives are available for both diseases. This project will build on a successful project piloted in Los Angeles, CA |
