| Project Description |
A Solectria Force electric car and a GM S-10 electric truck were the most recent additions to DES's vehicle fleet as of Winter 1999. They are two of the four vehicles purchased to demonstrate the capabilities of alternative fuel vehicles in reducing auto emissions and promoting energy efficiency. The car's range is approximately 25 to 40 miles on one charge, using approximately $0.75 worth of electricity. The truck's range is approximately 40 to 60 miles on one charge, using approximately $1.50 worth of electricity. These figures represents a tremendous energy savings. In fact, the overall system energy efficiency of the vehicles, including power plant efficiency, are about twice that of conventional, gasoline-powered cars. Further, emissions associated with power plant generation of electricity are estimated to be less than five percent of those from conventionally-powered vehicles. |
