Please join NEWMOA for a webinar on the prevalence of poly- and perfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in the environment and the risk it might pose to the public. 1:30 to 3:00 (Eastern) Liz Harriman, Massachusetts Toxics Use Reduction Institute will present PFAS: Avoiding Regrettable Substitutes. PFAS have a myriad of uses, and reducing or eliminating PFAS at the source often requires substituting another material or chemical. This presentation will give an overview of the range of PFAS chemicals, examine selected uses and discuss approaches for moving to safer alternatives. Mike Schade, Safer Chemicals, Healthy Families Mind the Store Campaign will present Phasing-out PFAS in Food Packaging at Top Grocery and Fast-food Chains. This presentation will outline where PFAS has been found in the food packaging at top grocery and quick-service restaurant chains, and how advocates have driven major food retailers to adopt public commitments to phase-out and ban PFAS in food contact materials.
